WASHINGTON -- Being around NASCAR fans requires no inoculation.
That was the word Thursday from Republican officials after they learned that a congressional committee's Democratic staffers had advised aides to get vaccinated for hepatitis and other diseases before visiting NASCAR events in Concord, N.C., and Talladega, Ala.
The shots would be reasonable if the suggested vaccines were for common airborne ailments like the flu, but according to The Charlotte Observer, aids were advised to get immunized for hepatitis A, hepatitis B, tetanus and diphtheria.
Rep. Patrick McHenry, R-N.C., reportedly said, "If anything, it's the NASCAR fans who should get immunized against Washington officials, not the other way around." McHenry makes a valid point. If the politicians in Washington haven't caught anything from the amount of crap they shovel on a daily basis, NASCAR fans shouldn't pose much of a risk.
