Zimbabwe begins recount

Zimbabwe's election officials began to partially recount the country's election results on Saturday. The largest opposition party, Movement for Democratic Change, seems to have won the majority of seats, but a recount could reverse the margin.

Nonetheless, government officials insist there was vote tampering, and the recount in 23 of 210 constituencies could overturn the results of the parliamentary election, in which the ruling party lost control of the lower house of Parliament for the first time in 28 years.

The presidential elections were held three weeks ago, but the results have still not been released.

MDC authorities said Sunday that dozens of its members have been detained because they have challenged the election results. If the opposition party wins the election, presidential candidate Morgan Tsvangirai will take longtime leader Robert Mugabe's position.

I'd be pretty darn suspicious if Mugabe's party wins the recount.
